Flinders’ first Year 8 students embarked on the first College camp over two nights in June, 1990 to Camp Duckadang, billed as “Queensland’s top youth camp”, based on the Brisbane River. The camp venue is still going strong!
Nestled between the Blackbutt and Conondale Ranges, the country property gave our founding students and staff an opportunity to build friendships and challenge themselves.
By day, students built make-shift rafts with tyre tubes, bamboo logs and rope. Hoping they were seaworthy, they then carried their rafts up the river and launched them, trying their best to paddle them downstream without getting wet. There was also orienteering and canoeing by day, and leather-craft, camp cooking and concerts by night.
